When There’s Nowhere for the TV to Go

You’ve styled the perfect living room — the sofa sits beautifully, the art is balanced, the lighting feels layered — and then comes the inevitable question: where on earth does the TV go?

It’s one of the most common layout headaches we see, especially in open-plan or character homes where wall space is precious. But fear not — there are clever ways to integrate a television without compromising on style.

Let’s explore a few.

1. Blend it in

If your TV has to be on display, make it part of the design.
Try a gallery wall around it to blur its outline, or mount it on a dark painted wall to help it recede visually.
Frame TVs are a brilliant modern option too — when not in use, they double as digital art.

2. Create balance

Avoid centring your TV automatically. Sometimes an off-centre placement feels more natural — especially if balanced by shelves, artwork, or a fireplace.
It’s all about creating a visually even composition, not perfect symmetry.

3. Hide it (when you can)

If your space allows, conceal your TV inside a cabinet, sliding panel or bi-fold door system.
In more minimalist spaces, you can even use textured fabric panels or bespoke joinery to disguise it when it’s not in use.

4. Consider height and comfort

The golden rule: your TV should sit roughly at eye level when seated — usually between 100–110 cm from the floor to the centre of the screen.
Too high, and you’ll end up with neck strain; too low, and it feels unfinished.

5. Anchor it with lighting

A TV wall can look stark without soft light around it.
Add a low console lamp, wall sconce, or LED backlighting to gently illuminate the area — it creates atmosphere and helps balance contrast during evening viewing.

Final Thought

A television doesn’t have to dominate your living room — with a bit of planning and clever styling, it can blend seamlessly into your home and still be the best seat in the house.
